The Department of Environmental Studies/Graduate Program in Environmental Science is seeking an outstanding PhD student interested in basic and applied research at the intersection of urban green infrastructure and local civic engagement. The student will contribute to a research program aimed at building community capacity for health promotion in an impoverished area of Syracuse, NY, through the provision of ecosystems services. Field sites are vacant lots in which green infrastructure (GI) is implemented to mitigate water quality problems resulting from combined sewer overflows (CSOs). Students should expect to employ a community-based participatory research (CBPR) methodology applied within a coupled social-ecological conceptual framework linking human and ecological outcomes.
